Semi-Primitive or Primitive - Your Choice
The semi-primitive Rainbow Drive Campground offers two camper cabins, three tent camping
sites, and three RV sites. A shower house and kitchen area on the campground are
available. Our campground is separate from our resort, which is 500 feet down the road.
Rainbow's private island is in the middle of the White River and has no road access. The
island offers a truly primitive camping experience!
Private Island Primitive Camping (Click For Rates)
Rainbow Island is located at the Narrows of the White River just 3 miles up river from the
Campground and Resort. This island is truly for those who want to rough it. No frills,
just beautiful nature and wildlife for the best primitive camping on the White River. As a
bonus, theres excellent trout fishing at the island. There is no land access to the
island. You will need to make arrangements with us to access the island by boat or canoe.
Cool In The Summer!
The water temperature in the White River stays at about 55 to 65 degrees in the summer.
Even in hot weather the river bank is about 10 degrees cooler than the surrounding
environment. And when a breeze blows we call it Nature's Air Conditioner because you get a
cool, moist breeze that is pure heaven on a hot day!
Shower House With
Kitchen Area
The campground's heated shower house with hot water is 30 feet from each site. The shower
house also features a covered kitchen sink area with electrical outlets so meal
preparation is convenient and easy. Bring a crock pot or electric frying pan with you!
Parking
Each Camper Cabin and tent site has a parking space. Please, one vehicle only per cabin or
tent spot. If you need additional vehicle parking, let us know in advance and we'll keep a

Frequently Asked
Questions about Rainbow Drive Campground
Q:
What do I need to bring?
A: Tent campers need to bring their own
tents and camping gear (up to two regular sized tents are allowed per site). All campers
need to bring their own bed & bath linens, lawn chairs, food and drinks, cooking
equipment, lanterns, flash lights and other camping gear. We also recommend bringing
shower shoes, toiletries, and ice chest. |
Q:
Do your RV sites have water, electric and sewer hookups?
A: Yes! RV sites have 30 & 50 AMP
electrical service, water & sewerage at each site. |
Q:
Is the camper cabin/tent site/RV site on the river?
A: Yes! Every site is on the river, just a
few feet from the water's edge. |
Q:
What do I get when I rent the island? What's there? How big is it?
A: At the high water mark, the island is
over 3 1/2 acres of nature's wild. A picnic table, firepit/grill and boat tie-off are
provided on the island for your convenience, but the rest is up to you. There is no
electricity, running water or telephone on the island. We only recommend it for the
adventurous person who likes roughing it! |
Q:
How do we get to the island?
A: The only way on and off the island is by
boat. Guests may arrange for boat, motor and/or canoe rentals with shuttle services
through Rainbow Drive Resort. Or guests may bring their own boat & motor or
canoe/kayak and arrange shuttle services through us. |
Q:
Where can I rent a boat or canoe?
A: Our dock is just a short walk away, 1/8
mile to the resort. We have Jon boats, motors and canoes available to rent. We also have
shuttle service available. |
Q:
Where can I get a fishing guide?
A: We'll be happy to arrange your fishing
guide. Whether you want to spin or fly fish, we have the best guides on the river. If you
have fished in the past with a guide you want to use again, we'll book your favorite
independent fishing guide. |
Q: Are
there mosquitoes at the campground?
A: We don't have
mosquitoes here, so wear your shorts and enjoy the warm summer evenings! |
Q:
Can I bring my own boat/canoe/kayak?
A: Yes, but you will need to park boats and trailers in our parking
overflow area. The public launch access is one mile up the road at Wildcat Shoals. We do
not have docking facilities or free public access to launch boats at our resort. |
Q: Can I
park my car by my tent?
A: Our campground is landscaped to preserve the natural beauty of our
riverside camp sites. A parking space is provided within 20 feet from your site. |
Q: Is
there something for the kids to do?
A: Kids love to catch trout! It's not unheard of for guided fishing trips
to catch 50-75 fish in a day. In addition to fishing and canoeing on the White River, we
can help you arrange trail rides, day trips to amusement parks, cavern tours, swimming,
jet skiing and more! |
